The Man Of God
Timothy was called "the man of God" by Paul in this passage. This is to indicate that he was a man that was called to preach the Word of God. This is also true of pastors, they are a man of God when they are called specifically to preach the Word and function in that role. We are told further that the man of God flees from the wicked things that drive him from the Lord and instead he is to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness. The man of God must fight the good fight of faith as there will always be resistance and wolves. Finally he is to lay hold on to eternal life and live and lead others from the overemphasis of the temporal.
