The world generally thinks that Christians are rather stupid for thinking the Bible is truth from God. We that believe not only in salvation in Christ but that His Word is true find the world is foolish in their thought life and quickly fall for fables. Peter reminds us that the Word of God is the most reliable source that there is. Peter was a first hand witness on the Mt. of Transfiguration and saw the majesty of Christ along with James and John the most trustworthy witnesses to verify that Christ is the Savior and King. Peter said that better than experience is the reliability of Scripture which didn't come by private interpretation, but through the special revelation of God's inspiration.
