How to Treat the Pastor pt. 3
Often when a church examines a prospective candidate as their pastor they only want to know if the man can preach a good sermon and can he lead the church. Sometimes a church will not examine a man beyond the superficialities of his character. The passage reminds the church that they are responsible to carefully and cautiously examine the prospective candidate to see if he has godly character. This would mean to see if he has obvious sin in his life and to also see if he might have a background of hidden sin in his life that needs to be disclosed to the church. The church will also need to know if this man has obvious godly character that has been known in his life; also if he has godly character that needs to be made open to them.
