Christ's Power Over The Devil

Luke wants the reader to realize that the Lord Jesus is the Christ and it is seen in His great power. This account gives the encounter with the demonic man with a legion of demons possessing him. He is running around a graveyard naked and when he encounters people he screams and attacks. This is not some psychological problem nor is some socio-economic issue of a depressed man. This man is a demonized lunatic that is super-strong and whose behavior is bizarre at best. The Lord Jesus comes and the demons are frightened of Christ's power and know Him. They fear that He will send them to the abyss and instead they request a herd of pigs. The man becomes calm and evangelized by Jesus and wants to be with Jesus, but Jesus sent him to tell others.
