Series: Colossians Topic: Victory Over Sin Scripture: Colossians 3:5-11, Romans 8:13, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

Winning Over Sin

Historically people have tried to win over sin by many methods; from ignoring it, redefining sin, trying to beat it to death or accepting it as part of life.  In our passage, God calls for His people to mortify or kill sin as the method of winning over it.  Christians still contend with the old sin nature that dwells in us and in order to have victory over it we must seek those things above.  We identify with the risen Christ, but also we must put to death in our members the old sin nature.  We are people that are to walk in newness of life and we live to please the Savior who we died and rose with.
